REAL LIFE

At first she had no friends. Now she can’t imagine going through life without the support of Bridgeway’s Women’s Ministry.

For the first year she attended Bridgeway, Valerie George felt too shy to “barge in” and introduce herself to anyone. In such a large church, she had no idea how to go about meeting people, let alone how to begin forming friendships! At the end of that lonely year, she finally met with Lance, who suggested she plug into the Women’s Ministry.

Valerie-GeorgeVal took his advice and jumped right in. She joined a Bible study, attended Women’s Ministry events, and began serving on planning committees. But something was still missing. “I was closed off,” she says. “I didn’t want to share about myself and my life with the women in my Bible study.”

But when she eventually did, she experienced a major transformation in her life: “When I began to share my struggles and the challenges deep in my heart, the ladies poured out their love to me. I realized I needed to be real and share my heart.”

Since then, Val says it has been amazing how the Lord has grown her spiritually. Not only does she have a large group of “true Christian sisters” who pray together and for each other regularly, but she sees God’s Word in a different light. She encourages other women to join a Bible study or come to a Women’s Ministry event, and to keep showing up. “Take a risk and share your real life,” she says. “Even when you don’t feel like it or when you are feeling discouraged.”

Find Valerie George on The City, where she would love to tell you more about how much the support of her friends at Bridgeway’s Women’s Ministry means to her. You can also e-mail Women’s Ministry leader Vicki Graeff at with other questions and for more details on how you can get involved.
