Life Skills
What is Life Skills?
Life Skills is a Bible based program to help with all relationships including with the Lord, our partners, our children, people in the workplace and even ourselves. The first 9 chapters of the program are about recognizing personal behaviors and anger issues . We give tools for awareness and behavior modification. The next 10 chapters are about understanding the "why" and the "where did it come from?" Discovering how I acquired my belief system and expectations. The last 6 chapters are about educating what "healthy" looks like and setting new goals. If it was never modeled, we never knew anything different. The common statements we hear in the class are "why wasn't this taught in school before we got married or I had children."
What motivated Jim and Carol Voyiatzes to facilitate Life Skills?
Jim and I have been married for 45 years. Due to our very dysfunctional families, most of those years were very unhappy. After excepting the Lord as our Savior in 1973 divorce was no longer option. We tried every seminar on marriage, retreats that taught about improving relationships, read everything we could get our hands on, prayed, prayed and prayed. Jim even taught a Bible study at our Church based on information from a popular Christian author. We still struggled with communication, trust, and just not knowing how to have a healthy relationship. Life Skills gave us the tools to help our communication, and understanding about Love and Intimacy - emotional connection. Jim and I still struggle but we now have the tools to help solve differences instead of continuing unhealthy behaviors. When you are not focused on your struggling relationship with your spouse, or others it is so much easier to grow in your relationship with the Lord.
