Director Of Worship
I've been a part of the Bridgeway family since Easter, 2010. Before this, I was working as an Assistant Music Director at a church in my home town- El Dorado Hills... I first fell in love with Christ the summer leading into my Senior Year in High School. It was almost instantly after that moment when I started going to church (SunHills Community Church). Within 6 months I was the Youth Pastor's Intern- stapling papers and planning games. After a year and a half of that I stepped down, only to later realize that God was calling me to lead His people in song. For nearly 5 years I transitioned my way from leading worship at youth group to leading a few times a month at both college group and main services for the weekend. 2009 began and ended as a year of change for me. It was then that I sensed God positioning me towards something different. In November I heard of Bridgeway and, after months of prayer and listening, God put me here. I can't wait to see where He leads as I continue to journey with Him. Uninteresting Facts about me
- PC or MAC?: Once you go Mac, you never go back...
- WHAT’S ON YOUR iPOD?: Good music is good music, regardless of it's genre. So, I listen to little bits of everything. Currently loving the sounds of: Two Door Cinema Club, Audrye Sessions, Jason Mraz, Phil Wickham, Muse, Neon Trees, Ben Harper, David Crowder*Band, The Decemberists, John Mayer, Hillsong United, Matt Papa, The Ting Tings, Keith Urban, Michael Buble, James Morrison, Pomplamoose, Starfield, Tyrone Wells, Owl City, The Script, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Matt Maher, Sons of Sylvia, A Fine Frenzy, Kris Allen, Passion Pit, Jets Overhead, Lady Antebellum, etc...
- PIERCINGS OR TATTOOS? Currently in the process of designing my first tattoo. The concept comes from the song “Wholly Yours” by David Crowder*Band. There’s a line in the song that suggests, “...a certain sign of grace is this: From a broken earth, flowers come up pushing through the dirt....and the truest sign of grace was this: From wounded hands redemption fell down, liberating man”
- FAVORITE MOVIE?: First of all, you must know how dearly I love movies. I'm not your typical "Blockbuster Hit" movie aficionado. I love the journey of character development and the art of cinematography. That being said- and again, not to sound like a broken record- good movies are good movies. Some of my favorites include: Away We Go, (500) Days of Summer, Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Dan In Real Life, Stranger Than Fiction, That Thing You Do, Up In The Air, Alpha Dog, Harry Potter, August Rush, Franklyn, Singin' In The Rain, Zombieland, Avatar, Back To The Future, Band Of Brothers, Lord Of The Rings, The Notebook, Pearl Harbor, Beautiful Mind, Big Fish, Braveheart, The Bucket List, Catch Me If You Can, Elizabeth Town, The Family Man, Cinderella Man, The Departed, Finding Forrester, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Pirates Of The Caribbean, The Polar Express, Pursuit Of Happyness, Forrest Gump, Gladiator, Juno, The Greatest Game Ever Played, Green Street Hooligans, The Guardian, I Am Legend, Kung Fu Panda, Lemony Snicket's: A Series Of Unfortunate Events, The Phantom Of The Opera, Rudy, Saving Private Ryan, Seven Pounds, etc...
- TOOTHPASTE FLAVOR?: Fact: I HATE brushing my teeth. Don’t worry, I brush, but it annoys me...next question.
- CHINESE, ITALIAN, OR MEXICAN FOOD?: Mexican. Every. Day.
- FAVORITE TV SHOW? I have a love/hate relationship with LOST.
- PS3, XBOX, OR WII?: The PS3 has a built in Blu-Ray player- enough said!

- How did you come to make Bridgeway Church your home? Upon making a family decision to find a Saturday night church, we kept comparing all of the others to the teaching at Bridgeway. We figured since this was the bar that was set, we should stay.
Ps 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
As a kid, I always wanted to be Laurie on the Partridge Family. It was a childish wish of a teeny-bopper who idolized teeny-bopper things. But now I'm forty-something; and for the last 16 years I have been privileged to play and sing to Him Who Alone is worthy to be praised.
Certainly I've been blessed to have had some fun and memorable musical opportunities. Whether it was singing solos with the Long Beach Symphony or backup choir with Lionel Richie in the L.A. Olympics, my Bachelor of Music degree or singing the national anthem at an NBA game... I came to find out that those cool, fun times and training were not for the sake of performance, but for the sake of preparing me to serve God and His Church.

In a recent sermon, Pastor Lance asked and stated, "how much control does God really have over your life?... What He has planned for you is always greater than whatever you're going to plan."
Exactly. Who am I to question God's will and purpose? As a child, I hated piano lessons. In college, I thought music theory and conducting were tedious chores. God is SO GOOD! Despite trying to do things for ourselves and in our own power, He remains faithful.
It wasn't until I was an adult that the Lord revealed and reminded me that I had given my heart to Him as a child. He was always faithful, always there for me, despite my efforts to wander away from Him. He gifted me with my Mel, the best friend and husband in the world! We like quiet walks on the beach, and loud pipes on our Harley.
Beloved reader, our prayer is that the Lord would use us to ENABLE YOU to have an intimate, one-on-one encounter with Him during the worship service. If it were logistically possible, we would be invisible or out in the hallway so not to distract you.
No doubt you've heard it numerous times; but it's a cliché worth repeating. Worship is not just that half-hour of music before the sermon, but a way of life. Even if you don't play an instrument or sing, we are all called to be worshippers. If it's in the quietness of your heart, or shouting at the top of your lungs, our loving Father hears you. Psalm 46:10 "Be still and know that I AM GOD" is my daily reminder to pursue Him with all my heart and soul. May your love for God grow in strength, depth, and truth.

What about sports? Well, when I was a boy, I was in the Little League baseball. Lately, I don't often have time to play sports, but I really enjoy golf. I have, in the past played a little softball, basketball, tennis, football, darts, bowling, and volleyball. In my early twenties, I also played catching chicks, but I quit because of the frustration of not being able to catch one.
When new people approach you, what should they know about you? When new people approach me they should be aware that I am very much like a wild cat; I can be purring one minute, then turn on you in the next second. They should also know that I occasionally make off-the-wall comments (like this one) with a ‘matter-of-fact' delivery.
Actually, I can very much identify with those people who are shy or are uncomfortable in social situations. I was profoundly quiet and shy growing up. It made me nervous that people might be looking at me, and I didn't know what to say to people. In fact, I didn't talk much; not even to my parents. In school, I neither verbally asked nor answered questions. Even if I were asked a question in front of the class, and knew the answer, I seldom answered because I was self-conscious.
How did you get started with leading worship? It probably started in my late teens. The church pastor had several children. Somehow, they found out that I could play a little guitar (no... not a physically small guitar, but that I knew a few guitar chords).
The pastor's oldest son was worship leader of the small church, and I was asked to join him on the platform. I knew that if I accepted, I would be very nervous because people would be looking at me. But, for some reason I accepted. Well, my first time on the platform changed my life! For the first time in my life, I felt acceptance and appreciation for something that I was able to do!. All of the shyness, nervousness, and fear instantly disappeared, and, like a dead log being thrown over a waterfall, I was cast, headlong, into a brand new world! ...Okay, that's a fairytale. Here is what really happened. I learned what it means when people say that someone ‘froze' because that is exactly what happened to me. I started thinking that I am new on the platform; that they would be watching and listening; they would be thinking "let's see what Keith can do", so people would be looking at me. Suddenly my whole body stiffened up, and I could not move. This made things much worse because now people were looking at me knowing that I had a guitar in my hands for no apparent reason. I wanted to leave the platform, but *NEWS FLASH* statues can't walk!
Recent studies have shown that a guitar player that cannot move his arms or fingers has a reduced chance of successfully creating musical tones. In fact, for those reading this who are not musicians, it should also be noted that it is extremely difficult for a musician (and especially a guitar player) to keep a beat when he can't move his head or his foot (or at least his lips).
The desire to be involved with worship must have outweighed the fear because somehow, with encouragement from others , I continued. The shyness, or whatever it is, has slowly dissipated over time, but has never completely disappeared.
It is believed that difficult times increases a person's strength. Do you find this to be true? Absolutely; many times God uses a negative situation to create positive outcomes. Finding out in 2000 that I had cancer was devastating to me for several reasons, and it actually took a process before I knew those reasons. I had panic attacks all day and all night for over 2 months. Because of that, I could not sleep. That, of course, made things worse. But through the process, I learned that God is absolutely real.
When we can go about our daily lives literally knowing some of what God is doing in and for our lives, we can be at peace, knowing that things will work out for good. I learned that He is moving for our protection, for our good, and for purposes of bringing us nearer to Him. Sometimes He does this through devastating or difficult circumstances. Such was the case for me. Somewhere in the mix, I became aware of what God was doing. He used my wife and daughters to provide huge support. He let me know that He was working on my behalf, and what a huge difference that made. Yes, it was still very difficult, but I was not going through this alone. There are far too many fantastic things that happened to even highlight them here, but let me tell you about God's first step for me. He spoke to my heart, asking me to pray for specific people, and to walk the neighborhood praying for neighbors I did not know. For me, there was a big problem with this. He was asking this of me while I was imploding and begging Him to help me. I was locked tight into all of the many concerns and the fears that were affecting me greatly, and I felt that I couldn't think about anything outside of myself and my situation. I had always been able to analyze, evaluate, and fix things. This I could not fix. But still I was analyzing and evaluating. That put me into a vicious loop, then into a tailspin. I am so thankful that I somehow chose to obey God by praying for others when I did not want to, because I believe that obeying initiated my healing. Without elaborating, I also experienced God's peace for a time in the middle of my devastation in a very dramatic way. That peace was 100%; absolutely no fear; absolutely no worry. This was huge because it gives me a glimpse of what God can do during a crisis.
God chose that I would later be healed of the cancer. He is good.
I have heard the question "where is God?". I now believe it would be good to answer another question before asking that one. The other question is "where do I need God to be?". The answer to that question is, in fact, the answer to the first question because God is where we need Him to be. I think that when we finally realize that we need Him in all aspects of our lives, He will be at work in all aspects of our lives and we will be positioned to make all of the right choices, experience real joy, and have life in abundance.

My name is Lary Walker, but some people call me LarDawg or Big Daddy. My lovely wife of 16 years, Deb, and I have two beautiful children, Connor (10) and Bitsy (8). I have another daughter, Ashley (22) from my first marriage. She lives in Fresno with her husband Luke and just made me a first-time grandpa.
We are one of the founding families of Bridgeway. I was blessed with Christian parents and have been in church all my life. I made a profession of faith at age 10 in my Baptist Bible Fellowship church, but really dedicated my life to the Lord at 17. I attended Liberty University for a while, but, when cancer struck my family, I finished my education close to my San Diego home at Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College (PCBBC). At PCBBC I studied secondary education and youth ministries.
Those years during college and right after were a turbulent time in my life. I met my first wife at PCBBC and we were married right before my senior year. During my senior year I lost both my parents to cancer. My first job after graduation was teaching 7th and 8th grade at a Christian school in Tuscan AZ. During that first year of teaching we had our daughter, Ashley, but my wife decided to walk away from our faith and me. When she left so did my job. I moved to Sacramento to start over.
I have been involved in the music ministry off and on since I was in my teens. When I moved back to California, I became involved with worship at Arcade singles' ministry, "Friday Night Singles". That experience led to various opportunities with worship teams, including Arcade's church plant, Roseville Hope, now Bridgeway. I also met Deb at Arcade.
God has blessed me beyond measure with my wife Deb, children, friends, and this worship team. He has taken me through the difficult times of my life and redeemed them to Himself. His work of redemption is most keen for me during times of worship.
My greatest desire is to see those who walk through the doors of Bridgeway come into a loving relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and they become passionate worshipers of God.

- How did you come to make Bridgeway Church your home? After the church of my youth was struggling mightily due to the advanced age of the congregation and its lack of desire to move in the direction of contemporary services, Sharon and I decided that we needed to move on... Along with Jon and Sarah Lee we decided to check out Roseville Hope (later known as Bridgeway) where Jon had known Lance Hahn from a previous bible study that he attended. We came in December 1999 and never looked back!
Around 1999, God called me to learn bass guitar for a very small church that was trying start a contemporary service (not Bridgeway). Before that time I had never played any instrument before in my life! Once I came to Bridgeway I was really pushed to learn more about playing bass. I was graciously allowed to start playing on the worship team by banging around on the congas for a while before I became a part of the bass rotation. - It being easier to hit something that didn't make a wrong note than playing the bass.
Being so new to music I at times struggle with being able to worship God while I play (I'm always thinking too much!)... That part of me is still growing as I get more comfortable playing. But it is awesome for me to look up and see others worshiping Him while I play. God has given me the opportunity to be an instrument for Him in allowing others to worship, which is an awesome feeling - WOW! I can't explain it, but it makes me feel like I am sitting right at His feet watching Him work.
It is my continual prayer to be in his service in whatever He asks of me, to be "on call" for God... Not an easy task I'll admit. But it is a privilege and honor to be used by Him in this way. I always pray before we play that God takes my hands and fingers and uses them as he sees fit (even if I sometimes play a wrong note). To humble me, so He gets all the glory from every note that is played, every voice that sings, every knee that bows, and every hand that is raised. I pray that as we lead worship, that we are never seen as ‘performers', but only as servants - an instrument in God's hands.
So I encourage you to follow God's prompting in Col 3:16 - Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.

- How did you come to make Bridgeway Church your home? Invited by a friend
My name is Steven Madrick. My wife Nancy and I have been attending Bridgeway since June of 2003. Besides being regulars at Bridgeway, we love being grandparents to our two 4 year old granddaughters and we both work as registered nurses. I have served on the Worship Team, mostly playing bass guitar, since November of 2003.
I feel extremely privileged to be a part of the worship ministry, a very visible ministry, and although it is lots of fun to play music with such talented musicians, there is also a very heavy responsibility with many challenges that go along with it. Personally, I usually never have any problem entering into true "vertical" worship whenever I am alone at home or in my car listening to praise songs, just between me and God. To me, the true worship challenge comes when I am in the congregational setting and I am distracted by many things and thoughts. It is easy to worship "horizontally" in that setting, just standing and singing the songs with the words up on the screen and not thinking too much about it. In the congregational setting it is much more difficult to enter into a sense of "vertical" worship, a meaningful, loving, and heartfelt pouring out of my heart to the living and sovereign Lord of the universe. To me, being on the worship team means being up front and leading the congregation into that true "vertical" worship experience without being a distraction or getting in between the Lord and the people as they worship Him. In other words, leading worship is much more than just another gig, playing music and trying to look cool while I do it. The privilege of leading the congregation in worship is a gift that the Lord has blessed the entire worship team with and we should, and do, all take it very seriously. Another personal challenge I face while being up there and leading in worship is being able to actually enter into worship myself while I am playing my guitar. Sometimes I am concentrating so hard on the technical aspect of the song that I am unable to experience anything even close to personal worship. And then the times when I do succeed in experiencing true worship, I usually lose my place in the song and make a bunch of mistakes. But God is graceful and so is our worship leader, and often times my mistakes are barely noticed. Praise God!
Another wonderful aspect of being on the worship team is that our leader sets an excellent example for us. Jeremy doesn't play the role of the leader of the band, he plays the role of the leader of a vital Bridgeway ministry. Jeremy helps foster and encourage an environment of fellowship and prayer. He encourages us to be open to one another and pray for each others needs. In a sense, the worship team is another one of the many small groups that exist at Bridgeway. Spending a weekend with the worship team at church as we lead the congregation often times becomes a time of blessing and growth for me, both as an individual and collectively as a group.
I consider it an honor to be a part of the worship ministry and I love everything that is going on at Bridgeway. It's an exciting place to be right now!

My wife and I started attending Bridgeway in March of 2007 and we immediately fell in love with everything about Bridgeway. I began going to church with my family when I was around four years old, and made the decision to follow Christ when I was twelve years old. Since then I have had my ups and downs, but through it all I know that God has been there urging me along. Music is my passion and I am thrilled that I can use that passion to help further the Kingdom and God.

Seriously, My family and I (Dad, mom and us 3 kids) attended Sun Hills Community Church up in El Dorado Hills for a number of years and Lance had filled in for out pastor at the time Paul Thome and we all genuinely enjoyed Lance's ability to communicate and teach the Word of God. We visted Roseville Hope a couple times back when they were on Kirby but it was about an hour drive and with us kids being younger at the time it just wasn't feesable to continue attending Roseville Hope.
Time went on, we (kids) grew up, Sun Hills ended up splitting in two, the adult (not lead) pastor and youth pastor left along with our family. The adult pastor formed a new church (Marina Community) on the opposite side of El Dorado Hills and we attended that for a little over 2 years before the pastor left and the church dispersed. I moved out shortly before (to Sacramento) to finish college and my family went church hunting for the next year or so.
I attended Flood Sacramento on Sunday nights in downtown during that time when my father heard Lance on the radio and found out where the church had relocated to (we lost contact when the name changed and the location moved). He informed me in late May of '08 and we have all been attending Bridgeway since then. I joined the Worship team in November of '08.
I have been playing drums since the age of 13 and playing for different churches all over Sacramento, Folsom, and El Dorado Hills whenever they needed a drummer since I was 14. My other passions are golf and computer games.

Hi, I'm Ariana Coburn. I started attending Bridgeway in October of 2008. My husband Keith and I were invited by our friends, Phil and Dana Percival to check it out and we absolutely loved our experience! The teaching - solid. The worship - genuine. The people - friendly. Bridgeway was a huge answer to prayer for us, having just gotten married in June of 2008 and moving to Rocklin.
