- LAST BOOK I READ: I'm reading a million books right now, here they are: (abridged list)
- Just finished "Under the Banner of Heaven" about a young woman and her baby being killed by her brothers-in-law who were polygamous, fundamentalist, Mormon radicals.
- Just finished "AS the Future Catches You" by a futurist named Juan Enriquez about bio-engineering
- Just finished "Why Do Men Have Nipples" by a doctor and a writer who answer questions that we are all afraid to ask (i.e. "what are eye boogers")
- Just finished "The Big Moo" about being innovative in business and doing one thing great and not trying to be perfect in all things.
- FAVORITE MOVIE OF **ALL TIME**:(tough one, I'm a movie freak) - used to be "Lost Boys" (vampire movie) or "Breakfast Club", but after puberty I think it might be more modern, but I can't think of it right now. I like anything intense, brutal, mind-bending, etc.
- WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT, SUPERMAN OR BATMAN Hands down Superman because he really has powers. Batman's a regular dude. Although in my book, Batman's way more interesting.
- FAVORITE FAST FOOD: Chick-fil-A (although I'm a pretty big Del Taco fan too).
- FAVORITE CRAYON COLOR: Midnight Blue
- CHILDHOOD HERO: Wolverine from the X-Men.
- FAVORITE 'GEEK OUT' ACTIVITY: Baseball Cards (buying, pricing, sorting).
Russ Graeff
Executive Pastor (which means he gets to do everything Lance doesn't want to do!)
Russ' family was a founding family at Bridgeway Christian Church way back in 1995. In 2002, after spending 12 years at Intel Corporation, he left the corporate world to become Executive Pastor. He is a graduate of Westmont College. He currently lives in Folsom with his wife Cindy, daughter Ashley and Fritz the WonderDog!
Some of his favorite things include juicy steaks, sushi, SF Giants, The History Channel, Survivor, MythBusters, FutureWeapons, Man vs. Wild, The Office, The Texas Longhorns, and the daily tickle fight with his daughter.
- LAST BOOK I READ: I just finished reading "If You Give A Mouse a Cookie" to my daughter. Beyond that, The Bible is a daily habit and "A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier" by Ismael Beah is really good. Children shouldn't have AK-47's.
- WHATS ON MY iPOD: Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) from U2. I also dig Reggae so I've got tons of Marley,UB40, Matisyahu, Black Uhuru etc. In the Christian world, I really like Aaron Shust, David Crowder, Jeremy Riddle, Shane and Shane and Mat Kearney.
- FAVORITE MOVIE OF **ALL TIME**: I watch a ton of movies, but my ALL time favorites include Moby Dick, LOTR, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and about anything with Will Ferrell, Jason Statham, or Jack Black.
- WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT, SUPERMAN OR BATMAN? Christopher Reeve as Superman with one arm tied behind his back!
- CHILDHOOD HERO: Nolan Ryan - especially when he beat the snot out of Robin Ventura!
- FAVORITE 'GEEK OUT' ACTIVITY: Keeping score at River Cats Games
Any recommendation above should not be viewed as a theological position, endorsement of immorality, or opportunity to harass Russ mercilessly for years or defame him in the Community of Faith for enjoying ostensively unedifying sources of entertainment such as music and movies.
Mark Henkel
Associate Pastor
Mark has been married to his wife, Joyce, for over 22 years and they have four children - Emily, Rebecca, Daniel and David. He and his family have been attending Bridgeway since September of 2000. Mark got his undergrad degree in Communication Studies (Interpersonal/Small Group/Public Speaking) at Cal State Sacramento, and his Master of Divinity degree from Western Seminary in Portland Oregon in 1991. After seminary, Mark and Joyce served as short term missionaries in Brazil and were then involved in ministry at various churches since then on a volunteer basis as well as part-time staff. He was the Director of Outreach Ministries at Lakeside Church in Folsom in the mid '90's and helped with the church planting effort that started Bridgeway. Mark worked for over 11 years at Intel in Folsom as a web designer and systems analyst on a software development team, and he joined our full-time staff in July of 2007.
- LAST BOOK I READ: Well, I'm in the process of reading about a dozen different books on Small Group Ministry as well as Spiritual Formation...too many to list here...and, boy, are they exciting! I'll let you know which one I finish first.
- WHATS IN MY CD PLAYER: CD player? I'm still using my 8-track. Okay, maybe not. In terms of CDs...usually David Crowder or Jeremy Camp or Big Daddy Weave.
- FAVORITE MOVIE OF **ALL TIME**: Difficult to say. I had earlier said perhaps Apollo 13...probably because I'm old enough to remember when it happened, and I had dreamed of being an astronaut when I was a kid and we lived near the Kennedy Space Center during the Apollo program (tells you how old I am!). But I saw a movie recently that really intrigued me -- Signs, by M. Night Shyamalan. This film is so unusual because it's a Sci-Fi flick yet the major current that runs through it is a man's wrestling with his faith in God. It is a very well done film with some amazing dialogue and some creepy parts...and one of my favorites of all time.
- WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT, SUPERMAN OR BATMAN? They both would win. When have you ever seen either lose?
- CHILDHOOD HERO: Johnny Quest, of course. (Again, showing my age!)
- FAVORITE 'GEEK OUT' ACTIVITY: Photography. I love photography and would much rather be behind a camera than in front of it! I've been shooting film for the past 30 years and recently got into digital. I love my Nikon gear (D200 and F100 and assorted lenses, etc.) and am always on the lookout to get more photo gear. Just need the money, as the stuff I like to shoot with is expensive.
Joel Asay
Facilities Manager - CLICK HERE TO READ MY BLOG
When Joel and Cheryl came back from training pastors in Kenya, their home church Arcade recruited them to start an alternative church in Roseville.
“We started with half a Sunday school class, and a few volunteers from other churches.” Russ Graeff was one of the first leaders to join, (though I found out later he was a little unsure about me). We started with a core of visionaries, with little more than ideas and dreams, and named our work Roseville Hope.”
Russ added a degree of stability, and helped keep the church on track through the tribulations of a fledgling work. Lance followed a few years later, though at first he was not sure he wanted the job.
“It is ironic that 10 years ago I/we hired Lance to become the pastor of this baby of a church, and 10 years later he hired me back, after the church became the strong work that it is today.”
Today Joel is the “old guy” of the staff, enduring the jibes and teasing that come along with the title, but loving being there, among a staff that is “all in” in serving Jesus.
“I can’t think of being anywhere else. They will have to pry my cold stiff hands away from this place and bury me before I will go, hopefully after I die but you never know.”
He is a chronic thinker, compulsing about things sane people don’t give a second thought. His wife has endured enjoyed him for 30 years. Joel and Cheryl have 3 children: Isaac (and his soon to be wife Emily), Joy, and Aaron
EMAIL ADDRESS:
- LAST BOOK I READ: the last book I read which rocked my world was John White’s When the Spirit comes with Power, and one of the most significant books I have ever read is Your God is Too Safe, by Mark Buchanan. I also read lots of John Grisham and Tom Clancy.
- WHATS IN MY CD PLAYER: My iphone has lots of tunes but I rarely listen to them. Instead I listen online using Pandora.com to Chris Tomlin, Enya, Newsboys and Jars of Clay
- FAVORITE MOVIE OF **ALL TIME**: I have watched and read The Lord of The Rings many times, I cannot decide if I admire more the brave ordinariness of Frodo or creaky boned, strangely driven mission of Gandalf. I like shows with real heroes and real virtue; not ones with selfish guys who do one commendable deed.
- WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT, SUPERMAN OR BATMAN? If it was a young Clark Kent he would have remembered his father’s advice to “not get involved,” then go tell some obvious lies to his friends and family…..
- CHILDHOOD HERO: I always though Spock was cool, with his emotionless logic and Vulcan nerve pinch. Never have been able to duplicate either though...
- FAVORITE 'GEEK OUT' ACTIVITY: I pay lots of attention to developing technology, particularly greentech. I am also hopelessly addicted to Hulu!

Sean Morgensen
Pastor to Senior High Youth
I am originally from San Jose though I have lived in a number of different places all over the Bay area as well as San Diego, Santa Monica, and Gilbert, Arizona. I was born and raised in the church and grew up knowing all about God, but didn’t really get to know Him until after going through some hard times in my later life. I have a beautiful wife named Tricia and we just had our first child name Kai. I enjoy doing a lot of outdoor stuff like hiking, camping, cycling, and paintball or air soft. I also enjoy reading, hanging out with friends, playing videogames, and the regular date night with my lady. I just graduated from William Jessup University with my degree in Youth Ministry and am embracing being fully devoted to serving God through my ministry to my family and the church. You can email Sean at
- LAST BOOK I READ: Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton, The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis, Is Belief in God Good, Bad, or Irrelevant by Preston Jones, The Gospel According to the Simpsons by Mark I. Pinsky, and a growing number of others that I will one day conquer, mwahahahaha.
- WHAT'S IN MY CD PLAYER: I typically listen to podcasts of different sermons rather than music, but when I do get rock out I have a rather eclectic taste. My iPod has Bach, Daft Punk, Metallica, The Police, David Crowder, some stuff from my new Reach Records compilation, and a bunch of U.K. Intelligent Drum and Bass which you’ve probably never even heard of.
- FAVORITE MOVIE OF **ALL TIME**: That’s a tough one, but I think that I am going to have to go with Braveheart. It is definitely an awesome flick with a great message, accompanied with a lot of sword fighting by guys in skirts, er . . . kilts. Another which is great is Memento, which although I cannot officially endorse contains an awesome moral once you get past all of the cursing and violence.
- WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT: SUPERMAN OR BATMAN? Honestly, how could anyone think that Batman would stand a chance against Superman? Even if Superman agreed beforehand not to use his icy breath, laser beam eyes super strength, or powers of flight, Batman would have to sneak up on Superman with kryptonite in order to even have a chance to hurt him. And guess who has x-ray vision, not Batman.
- CHILDHOOD HERO: I never had one as I was growing up, but now I can say that I think that my mom was my hero since she did an awesome job in raising my sister and I despite all of the obstacles that she had to overcome.
- FAVORITE 'GEEK OUT' ACTIVITY: Totally video games. Whether action, F.P.S.s, R.P.G.s, puzzles, or fighting, video games are where it is at, especially multiplayer Halo, which I will destroy you at.

Rachel Clark
Communication Arts Director
Rachel started working with video and graphic design at the age of 15. She's spent the last 16 years learning everything possible about creation, storytelling, production, and professional management. She also 'hones' her skills by watching lots of TV and movies. No really. She feels it's really important to know how the everyone uses today's channels of communication. And she feels it's about time us Christians get out there and communicate God's love and the Christian experience along those same lines. Without being cheesy. This is a 'no cheese' zone.
Rachel is married to her best friend Dave, and has one massively cute baby named Declan and a poor puppy who's been bumped from premiere status by the baby!
- LAST BOOK I READ: I'm in the middle of the new Rob Bell!

Brian Lisk
Director of Sound
First... I want to say... Congratulations. You have made it to the bottom of the page. I would like to thank you for sticking with it until the end. Most people check out Lance and Russ and get outraged by their movie and book choices that they leave the page without checking the rest of the staff. I appreciate your willingness to see it through to the end to get to know the rest of us. Since I'm the last person on the list... Well.... I'm gonna make you pay for it. Prepare to read... prepare to laugh... (please laugh). They asked me for a bio... I've never written one of these, so I used a template that I saw online somewhere.......
Brian is the Director of Sound Ministry. He enjoys sunsets, long walks on the beach..... and a congregation with a sense of humor. (Maybe I should have choosen a different template. Let me try again.) Brian was born and raised in Connecticut in 1980 and, he moved to California in 1998. He accepted Christ in February 2004, and he has been attending Bridgeway since November 2005. Brian was married on January 23, 2009 to an amazing woman, Jenni. He has a love for music that started at a very young age. While other toddlers were listening to Raffi, Brian was being sung to sleep by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. He has acquired a live music collection of about 200 concerts by over 30 different artists. It was this passion for live music that got him involved with the sound ministry. His sole desire in the sound ministry is to worship God by assisting others to worship God through music. If you don't notice what his ministry adds to the service, they are doing their job properly. We want your worship experience to be between you and God, uninterrupted by technicalities. In addition to being on staff with the sound ministry, Brian also volunteers with the Edge Jr. High ministry.
You can email Brian at:
If you have an interest in the Sound Ministry and you are looking to get involved, check out the Acoustic Arts page for more information.
- WHATS ON MY iPod: The most listened to secular artists: Jeremy Kay, Carbon Leaf, Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz, Matt Nathanson. The most listened to Christian artists: Andrew Peterson, Caedmon's Call, Chris Rice, Big Daddy Weave, Hyperstatic Union.
- BOOKS I AM CURRENTLY READING: I am re-reading "The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus" by John R. Cross. It was the book that opened my mind to Jesus being who he said he is. I wanted to see if it is still as impactful now that I am a more mature Christian. It is. It serves as a great reminder. Before reading this book, though, my wife and I were on a bit of a nostalgia kick. We recently finished The Cay by Theodore Taylor and The Twenty-One Balloons by William Pene du Bois and Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White. We were reading the Indian in the Cupboard, but Jenni didn't like it, so we moved on. :) I'm looking forward to reading Donald Miller's new book, "A Million Miles in a Thousand Years" I loved all of his previous books. If you're looking for a book to read, check out his older book, "Through Painted Deserts"
- FAVORITE MOVIE OF **ALL TIME**: Garden State. I have a hetero-man crush on Zach Braff. Everything he does is gold. I really related to the film after my parents moved away. One quote in particular really spoke to me. "You know that point in your life when you realize the house you grew up in isn't really your home anymore? All of a sudden even though you have some place where you put your stuff, that idea of home is gone. It just sort of happens one day and it's gone. You feel like you can never get it back. It's like you feel homesick for a place that doesn't even exist. Maybe it's like this rite of passage, you know. You won't ever have this feeling again until you create a new idea of home for yourself, you know, for your kids, for the family you start, it's like a cycle or something. I don't know, but I miss the idea of it, you know. Maybe that's all family really is. A group of people that miss the same imaginary place."
Though I don't feel that way now since I have a home with my wife and a home family with the congregation of Bridgeway, this quote spoke to me at one time when I didn't have either. - FAVORITE FOOD: Fettucini Alfredo from Olive Garden. Yes. I know "The OG" is "not really Italian", but oh my gosh, the Alfredo sauce is the best. I've yet to have one better. If you know of one that I don't have to fly somewhere to get it, e-mail me. Seriously.
- WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT, SUPERMAN OR BATMAN?: I'm not a comic book guy. If I were going on the quality of the movies, Batman would win But Superman isn't human. He's got all these crazy powers... he'd totally kill Batman. Wait. If Superman is not human... but.... he's living among us... does he have the opportunity to know Jesus? I guess the real question is this: "Is Superman loved by God?" Wow. That was deep.
- CHILDHOOD HERO: Jerry Garcia. I grew up as a HUGE Grateful Dead fan. I never did any drugs in my entire life, but boy oh boy, I really got into the music. What an amazing talent! I only wish I were able to see the Grateful Dead in person while Jerry Garcia was still alive.
- FAVORITE FAST FOOD: I have to choose Chick-Fil-A. I know Lance chose Chick-Fil-A, and now I'll be accused of being a kiss up... but seriously... it's not only 'good for you', but it is SOOOO tasty. I break up my Chick-Fil-A outings with In N Out and Wendy's as well.
- FAVORITE 'GEEK OUT' ACTIVITY: Eyes always roll the very moment I mention sports or music. New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox... Dave Matthews Band, Carbon Leaf... I know useless, useless facts about pretty much everything. I used to be a NASCAR fan and I knew EVERYTHING... Driver's home towns, birthdays, crewchiefs, owners.... everything. NASCAR lost me when my driver, Rusty Wallace, retired and when they went to the Chase. Sorry, NASCAR fans... Football consumes my Sunday afternoons. Oh... I love drawing too. OH!! AND LEGO'S!!! (Anyone looking to get rid of their old Legos... let me know! Just don't tell my wife. She thinks my Lego love is lame).
Check out my testimony. This was recorded in August 2008 while I was dating my girlfriend who is now my wife... see under the video to see answers to my testimony:
OK... To answer questions that you probably wouldn't pick up on, but I did and it totally drove me nuts:
Q: In the video you said that you weighed 302, and the doctor told you that you lost 12 pounds bringing you to 288. If I did the math right...
A: Yes... I know. It was 14 pounds. I do sound... not algebra. ;)
Q: Early in the video, you mentioned that Reggie is now your best friend, yet when you broke up with your girlfriend, you didn't have anyone. What happened to Reggie?
A: Reggie moved to Michigan with his wife a year earlier. Though he and his wife, Kristal, really helped me through that rough time, they weren't here. I had no one here in California.
Q: Did you just cry??
A: Yes... Yes I did.
Q: Really?? Are you OK with that? Does your wife know about that?
A: Yes. I'm OK with that, and my wife is aware.
Q: Guys don't cry, you know that, right??
A: Uhh... yeah they do.
Q: I like you. Wanna hang out sometime?
A: Sure. But not just some time... let's make this happen. E-mail me. We'll do lunch... I'm big on lunch. :D Oh... but don't say, "We should totally hang out sometime." but then never follow through. I suggest having a day lined up ahead of time. :) Love you all. (I mean it)
